The Economic Capital
Nouadhibou is known as a fishing city, with a large maritime economy. It’s an important and export hub, as all the iron that is mined in Zouerat is exported from Nouadhibou. Because of this, it’s the economic capital of Mauritania.
Nouadhibou boasts a Spanish influence because of prior territorial disputes, and the cultural influence that comes from the Canary Islands. It is also known for its nearby White Cape (Cap Blanc), where a large seal colony rests seasonally.
