Capital of Adrar
There are many schools and markets in Atar. Many French vendors come here to sell their wares. Atar was founded from migrants from Chinguetti. It was established for strategic military and commerce reasons. It is one of the newer desert cities in Mauritania, and boasts newer structures than its nearby cities like Chinguetti and Ouadane. Because of this, it doesn’t share the same history.
